Elevator Pitch: My First Encounter
Being a student in the Bachelor's in Information Technology program is exciting yet challenging, especially when it comes to stepping into the world of technopreneurship. Recently, I had my first encounter with something nerve-wracking called an elevator pitch. It happened in the Audio Visual Room (AVR) of our college building, where both the BSIT-IS and BSIT-BTM classes gathered to share and evaluate technopreneurial ideas.
Here's how it went down:
1. Sharing Ideas: Each class took turns presenting their innovative ideas in a short amount of time, similar to an elevator ride. As I watched my classmates confidently pitch their ideas, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness about my own turn.
2. Question and Answer Portion: After each pitch, students and the facilitator asked questions to understand the ideas better. They wanted to know if the ideas were new, how they planned to make money, and what their overall goals were.
3. The Verdict (Axe, No Axe, or Neutral): Once all questions were answered, the audience voted on whether they thought the ideas were unique. Then, the facilitator made the final decision. It was a moment of truth where ideas were either accepted or rejected.
Watching this process unfold, I realized the challenges ahead. Facing tough questions from peers and authority figures seemed daunting, but I knew it was crucial to be prepared and confident in defending my own ideas. From observing others, I learned a lot about what makes a good pitch. I understood the importance of clarity and coherence in explaining one's vision, especially when it came to highlighting the uniqueness of the idea, the plan to make money, and the overall goals. With this knowledge, I'm determined to refine my pitch and be ready for my turn. While it still makes me nervous, I see it as an opportunity to showcase my creativity and determination.
In summary, my first elevator pitch experience was a big step in my journey towards technopreneurship. It is a challenging but essential process where ideas were tested and refined, laying the groundwork for future innovation and entrepreneurship. Each pitch will bring me closer to my goals, armed with valuable lessons and a stronger sense of purpose.
